Sea-time was gained as CPO Carpenter with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary & on merchant, salvage, survey, & working vessels large & small. Extensive experience & skills were gained in practical supervision of deck, cargo & salvage operations & in navigation & engineering.

He draws from many years experience of hands-on vessel operation, repair & management; cargo & equipment care; damage control & "front line" problem solving, much of it taking place in some of the world's harshest marine environments.
